Metacognition and the curriculum

The metacognition and the curriculum programme is delivered in partnership with Lincolnshire Research School and is a two-day programme, aimed at class teachers, senior leaders and headteachers.

The first day of the programme provides an introduction to metacognition and why it is crucial to explicitly teach pupils metacognition as part of the curriculum provision.

 Day two takes a subject-specific focus, with the morning session looking at the seven-step model for metacognition and explicitly teaching metacognitive strategies linked to vocabulary, reading, writing, science and maths. Learning how to promote Metacognitive talk and independent learning. The afternoon session will consider the process of implementation and evaluation, providing participants with a clear theory of change to take back into schools.
