Humberston Academy approved to launch a Teaching School Hub

Academy to become beacon of excellence for teacher and leadership training and development in Lincolnshire

Humberston Academy in Grimsby, part of the David Ross Education Trust, has been announced as one of the Government’s new Teaching School Hubs in the East Midlands.

The Department for Education has now announced 87 teaching hubs that will become beacons of excellence for teacher development and leadership training and development, replacing the previous network of around 750 Teaching Schools.

The Teaching School Hub will play a significant role in the delivery of the Early Career Framework and Initial Teacher Training, alongside National Professional Qualifications. These will focus on subject specific teacher development, curriculum leadership and behaviour and ethos. The Hub will also offer a range of school improvement packages designed to help Head Teachers and leaders build sustainable and meaningful improvements in their schools.

Stuart Burns, Chief Executive of the David Ross Education Trust said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have been selected as one of the new Teaching School Hubs and look forward to working with the next generation of educators over the years to come. At the David Ross Education Trust we are driven by our mission of providing a world-class education to all of our children. That world-class education can only happen with world-class teacher development, and through the Teaching School Hub we will be helping new and existing teachers and leaders develop the expertise they need to help deliver on that ambition.”

Mark Neild, Deputy Chief Executive of the David Ross Education Trust will chair the board of the new Teaching School Hub at Humberston.

Mark Neild, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the world-class education that Humberston has been providing to its school community, led by Dan Shoubridge. We are delighted that we are able to share our expertise by offering the highest quality professional development across the North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire area.  We have proud roots in Lincolnshire and we know the region very well. We are passionate about this community and we want to see all schools having unfettered access to excellent evidence-based professional development, so that every child receives the most ambitious and enriching education. This is such an exciting opportunity for us to work together with our local and national partners, harnessing their expertise and experience to help teachers and leaders to develop, grow and thrive. We see this work as an enormous privilege and we understand how crucial partnerships will be to its success, so they will sit at the heart of our work."

Drawing on expertise within the Trust at secondary, primary and from Eresby special school, and the strength within the sector more widely, the Teaching School Hub hopes to make a significant contribution to the region when it is launched in September 2021.
